Here at Bone Boutique, we're marking a special milestone – the creation of our 300th unique 9-Banded Armadillo design! This remarkable creature has been with us since the early days of our Bone Empire journey, and it feels like the perfect moment to reflect on its significance.
The armadillo, with its protective armor and tenacious spirit, has always captivated our imagination. There's something truly special about transforming these beautiful remnants into wearable art, giving them a second life and allowing their story to continue.
But the armadillo's story doesn't begin with the modern world. It's a lineage that stretches back into prehistoric times, to the awe-inspiring Glyptodon.

Imagine a creature the size of a small car, covered in a massive, bony shell – that was the Glyptodon. These ancient giants roamed this very area, their fossils a testament to a world long past. In fact, just a mile from our current location, at the Moore Museum of Art & Natural History (our home/studio/museum), we have the privilege of displaying a seven-piece connected group of Glyptodon armor, alongside a massive, solitary shell. To stand beside these ancient relics is to feel a tangible connection to the deep history of our region.
It's a fascinating contrast to hold a delicate, modern armadillo scute in your hand – sometimes measuring a mere quarter of an inch – and then gaze upon a Glyptodon fossil that spans 1.5 inches! This juxtaposition highlights the incredible evolutionary journey of these armored animals.

Our work at Bone Boutique seeks to honor this legacy. With every armadillo design, we strive to capture the spirit of both the ancient Glyptodon and its modern-day cousin. We see them as protectors, storytellers, and symbols of resilience – qualities we hope to imbue in every piece of jewelry we create.
