Where do you source your bones from?We source my bones from a variety of ethical and sustainable sources, including roadkill, donations from farms and hunters, and bones that have been reclaimed from the environment. We are always careful to ensure that my bones are sourced in a way that is respectful of the animals they came from.
-
How do you ensure that your bones are ethically sourced?I process the bones personally. Yes. My husband or I will salvage animals that have been struck from the roads. Bone Boutique will not pay for bones, so this also weeds out any poachers and illegal activity. We am always careful to ensure that my bones are sourced in a way that is respectful of the animals they came from.

What are some of the challenges you face as a business owner? One of the biggest challenges I face as a business owner is educating people about the ethical sourcing of animal bones. There is a lot of misinformation out there about bone jewelry, and I want to make sure that my customers know that my products are made from bones that were sourced in a way that is respectful of the animals they came from. Another challenge I face is finding a balance between creating beautiful and meaningful pieces of art and making sure that my products are affordable. I want my products to be accessible to everyone, but I also want to make sure that I am able to make a living from my business.

What are your hopes for the future of Bone Boutique? Our hope for the future of Bone Boutique is to continue to create beautiful and meaningful pieces of art that connect people with the natural world. We also hope to educate more people about the ethical sourcing of animal bones and to help to dispel the myths and misconceptions that surround this topic.

"My bone jewelry is dirty or has make-up on it. How do I clean them?"Your real animal bone jewelry is a beautiful and unique piece that you'll want to keep looking its best. Here are some tips on how to clean it: For light scuffs and makeup stains, use fine grit sandpaper or fine grit nail buffer and buff the area lightly. For heavily soiled bones, wash with dishwashing liquid and dry with paper towel. Sun to dry to a few days. If your jewelry needs more extensive cleaning or repair, please contact us at Michele@boneboutique.biz. We can most likely clean or replace certain items on a case-to-case basis. How do you clean the specimens?**Which Cleaning Method is Best?** The best cleaning method for a particular specimen will depend on a number of factors, including the size of the specimen, the type of material it is made of, and the desired level of cleanliness. In general, bucket maceration is a good method for cleaning large specimens, while hydrogen peroxide is a good method for cleaning small specimens. Sunlight can be used to clean any size specimen, but it may take longer than other methods. **Experiment and Find Your Own Method** The best way to find the best cleaning method for you is to experiment. Try different methods on different specimens and see what works best. With a little trial and error, you will be able to develop your own method for cleaning specimens that produces the results you want. We take great care in preserving these bones, and we are committed to providing you with the highest quality artwork. We believe that these animals deserve to be honored, and we hope that our art will help you connect with them on a deeper level. We want to share how we do it, check out "The Process" page.
